I have severely crowded teeth, does this mean I can’t have braces?

June 29th, 2012
Q.

Hi. Dear expert could you please aid me. I have had long running problems with crooked teeth and oral hygiene. because my bottom teeth are so crooked I cannot get even flossets between them to floss which means I have to spend extra time brushing, guessing whether or not they are OK. I have now had enough and want braces but I don’t want the ones on the front. my concern though is that the ones on the back of the teeth won’t be suitable for me as some teeth are nearly behind others they are that crossed, in this scenario what would you do? thanks

Is there a way I can minimise the number of appointments needed when receiving lingual braces?

June 29th, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr. please could you tell me about these lingual braces? my dentist mentioned them the other day. he suggested that I have braces and I got a bit upset as I really don’t like them. I am not comfortable at the dentist so after managing to stick to a consistent appointment routine/plan it was a bit of a kick in the face to hear that. he then obviously said that I had a lot of options and that a lingual brace could be one. are there different form of lingual brace ? I want to have a quick method to minimise the amount of appointment I’ll have to be in you see. please could you advise me? thanks

I have overlapping teeth and my only option seems to be intercepting braces. Can you advise?

Q.

Hi Saba. I am thirteen and my teeth have started to move to a point whereby they have overlapped slightly. My dentist and orthodontist have told me they can use intercepting braces to treat the problem now before it gets worse. They didn’t give me a time as to how long it would take because it’s different. I think he’s just trying to get me in braces quicker because that’s what a lot of them are doing. what are your thoughts on intercepting?

At 13 could I have two social six braces, one on each jaw?

April 17th, 2012
Q.

Hello dear expert. I am 13 and my teeth have done my head in for aages now. my bottom teeth are crooked, this is not the most serious issue but it needs addressing. the bigger problem is that my jaw seems to line up with the top jaw almost. the top row is only just in front of my lower teeth, coupled with the fact my lower teeth aren’t level means that one of the upper middle teeth has moved slightly to accommodate the crooked one that now sits where it used to. Could I have two social six treatments (one on each row) or would the treatment be more extensive? thanks I know it is difficult without seeing me

how long will my teeth take to straighten if I had braces when I was younger?

April 17th, 2012
Q.

hello Dr. I was wondering if you could help me. I has a full brace when i was younger. I absolutely hated it and was always conscious of how it looked. I did wear my retainer for a long time and in hindsight I guess it worked or at least was working. I stopped wearing the retainer and my teeth moved back to where they originally were. I want to have treatment to fix this but I was wondering if it would be quicker this time around as the teeth have been moved previously?

Can the front of my teeth be too uneven to have braces fitted to them?

April 17th, 2012
Q.

Dear Saba, I have been having problems with my teeth for some time now. I have a really uneven surface to some of my front teeth especially those on the lower jaw. I think this is because of my diet in the past, which has vastly improved over the last few years. The issue is my teeth are crooked and I think are wearing on teeth from the upper arch as a result. (as a few stick out). as for having a brace could I have it on the teeth even if the surface is uneven or would it be a better idea to have them on the back of the teeth as I think this is nice and smooth? thanks for your time

Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to braces?

April 17th, 2012
Q.

Mr Patel, I have always struggled with the dentist as I know many people do. I am now told that I have to have braces and that’s about as bad as it gets as you can imagine. I also, just to make matters worse, have a weak immune system which means I have allergic reactions to pretty much anything including dust! I was wondering if there is anything used when having braces that could cause any kind of reaction? or whether you had heard of any related case before… be honest ha! thanks

Is there any reason why I shouldn’t have the Inman aligner?

March 23rd, 2012
Q.

Hello. I have looked at various brace options now and am a bit fed up of looking.I want to get braces as soon as possible. I like the look of the inman aligner as a way of fixing mildly crooked teeth. I have however heard bad press about them so to speak. never anything academic just oh this isn’t proper and things like that. Is there any reason why you wouldn’t administer this treatment or even opt for an alternative. thanks

Can I choose the fitting for the social six treatment and will I need to have a tooth out?

March 23rd, 2012
Q.

Hi I want the social six treatment for the obvious reasons that my teeth are largely fine just the ones at the front are crooked. I want to know one or two things first though. firstly is, do i have to have the one brace like fitting or can I choose to have another type of fitting like the ingognito? and secondly no matter which I use, will I have to have a tooth extracted? thanks

I am really pleased with my brace. Could you tell me about tooth whitening afterwards though?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

Hello Mr Darsh Patel, I have been wearing the damon brace for five months now. I have the tooth coloured ones which do look really discreet. I am really happy with them and my dentists work with them, I had them fitted in one session only 10 days after an initial appointment/assessment (would have been sooner but he wanted to make sure my mouth was in the best possible condition). I honestly cant gush enough I’m really happy with how it’s all turned out and I’m sick of horror/sob stories so I thought it worth a mention that these things work well! I just want to know about what happens after- I know I will have to have a retainer and am having a wire? but its the tooth whitening I was concerned with, will that be of extra cost or do you think it will be included because I’m worried my teeth will look more yellow when finished? thank you sir
