Is it possible to have an allergic reaction to braces?

Q.
Mr Patel, I have always struggled with the dentist as I know many people do. I am now told that I have to have braces and that’s about as bad as it gets as you can imagine. I also, just to make matters worse, have a weak immune system which means I have allergic reactions to pretty much anything including dust! I was wondering if there is anything used when having braces that could cause any kind of reaction? or whether you had heard of any related case before… be honest ha! thanks
A.
Allergies to braces are rare but have been reported. Interestingly, the mouth is less sensitive to allergens than skin. Typically patients are allergic to the nickel in braces, do you know if you are? There are tests that can be done before having any braces and your Orthodontist can advise you on how to get this done by your local General Practitioner (doctor).
Good Luck
