Can the front of my teeth be too uneven to have braces fitted to them?

Q.
Dear Saba, I have been having problems with my teeth for some time now. I have a really uneven surface to some of my front teeth especially those on the lower jaw. I think this is because of my diet in the past, which has vastly improved over the last few years. The issue is my teeth are crooked and I think are wearing on teeth from the upper arch as a result. (as a few stick out). as for having a brace could I have it on the teeth even if the surface is uneven or would it be a better idea to have them on the back of the teeth as I think this is nice and smooth? thanks for your time

Hi there,

Without actually seeing your teeth it is very difficult to give you an accurate answer to this one I’m afraid.

Ususally, even if the surface is uneven the glues that we use nowadays are very good and as long as the surface isn’t too bumpy, we can still bond the braces to them. An alternative may be to use the backs of the teeth, but these are quite different to the front braces and come with their own issues.

I hope this is of at least some help. If you would like to me to have a proper look come and find me at the Sparkle Dental Boutique and we can have a proper chat.
