Can I get Damon braces that are fitted to the back of the teeth?

Q.
Hi. I have looked at a few braces and am torn as to which one to have I like the look of a few and have drawn up a shortlist on my own. I do intend to take it to the dentist and see what he thinks of it and which methods are best but I though I’d try and get some background on each first. I like the look of the damon brace and have read a lot of good reviews about it. is it possible to have the damon brace on the back of teeth? i like the idea of a lingual brace but have seen good things of the damon. however the damon is always on the front of the teeth and i wondered if this was for a reason or whether it was just easier/cheaper to do this. could you please help me with this and to expand, is it only the stb and incognito brace that you can have on the back of teeth? thanks
A.
Hi,

Damon do not provide a lingual brace at the moment, but with the advances in technology, who knows what they may come up with in the future. It may be that the self-ligating mechanism which makes Damon what it is, is too big currently to be placed lingually or that it may be difficult to access it from inside as lingual work has a much more restricted working space. In the mean time, STB and Incognito are the main lingual braces, although there are many on the market. You will find that most orthodontists have particular systems which they feel comfortable with and which they get good results with.

Just because the lingual brace is not Damon, doesn’t mean that you can’t get any expansion.

I hope this helps,
