What can I do to get through having a brace with dental phobia?

Q.
Hi SABA, I’m a life long dental phobia patient. It it is not my wish to have orthodontics but it most certainly is my wish to have nice teeth. I don’t think I’ll be too bothered about having a brace once it’s on but I know i will be whilst its being put on. there’s a few things I would like to find out from you from this if that OK. first is how long would it take to have alingual brace put on and secondly what is available to help me through the procedure? If you can answer these it will go some way to re-assuring me, I am very grateful for your time.

Hi there.

A lingual brace is more fiddley than the traditional braces, as I am sure you can imagine. Lingual braces are usually fitted either upper or lower at one time and then the other at a subsequent visit and it normally takes about an hour to fit either one.

In terms of what can help you through this, firstly, I always tend to go through exactly what to expect step-by-step,so there are no surprises, and many patients find this helps alot. Some also bring in MP3 players so they can listen to something to help relax them and take their mind off things.

I hope this helps,

Kind regards,
