Would the gummy look of my smile be treatable by braces?

Q.
My teeth aren’t misaligned as such, but my gum line is quite strange so my teeth look shorter at the front and quite large at the back, I think it is due to the shape of my teeth as the ones at the back sort of go in then they push further out at the front. They appear straight, they just make my smile look quite gummy so would you think this would require a brace? I’m not sure, just looking into it before I go ahead and start booking consultations etc as it’s really getting to me now, especially when I look back through old photos. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

I can only guide you very loosely on this one I’m afraid, as this is the type of case that has to be judged on clinical assessment.
Sometimes teeth that are sloping back towards the tongue can make the gums appear much more prominent and once the teeth are moved this changes. However in some cases it isthe position of the upper jaw and its relationship to the upper lip, if this is the case often orthodontics alone cannot make a significant change.
It really depends on which catergory you fall into, and the best way to know is to have an orthodontic assessment.

I hope that helps.
