My front teeth have crossed, can you tell me about six month smiles please?

Q.
hello Dr Darsh Patel.my teeths at the front of my mouth are quite badly crossed and have been like this for a few years now since I was 17 ( I a now 22). its clear that I should have had braces at that point as they would have been never been like this now and would have been fixed, over and done with. at the end of next July I will be moving out to start my new job up north in Manchester and Want my teeth to be straight before I go back, I see the six month smiles and wonder if they will be OK for me, What kind of criteria do I have to meet in order to get these braces and what’s the system involved when compared with that of the old/normal brace/ train tracks. does it hurt more because if its a brace it’ll have to pull tighter wont it? please help as I need to get a move on, thank you for your time very much.

It appears from what you have mentioned above that you are ideal candidate for orthodontic treatment. You will be amazed at the different options that are now available ranging from visible orthodontic appliances to the completely invisible.

The six month smile system is widely used by dentists and not orthodontists. This system uses metal or ceramic (clear) brackets that are placed on the front of the teeth. This system will only achieve small movements and aims at just aligning the teeth you see when you smile, the upper and lower anterior (front) teeth predominately. It will not address more complex movements such as correcting your bite or moving the roots of your teeth into their ideal position (important for helping them stay there!).

I would highly recommend that you book an orthodontic consultation with a specialist orthodontist. This will help determine all the options that are available, pros and cons, thereby allowing you to make a decision as to what’s best for you!

Remember to always ask to see cases they have treated!

I hope the above has helped and good luck with your orthodontic journey.
