Will I Have to Have Teeth Removed to Get Braces?

Q.
Hi Ian. My teeth on both the top and bottom are very, very crowded and I’ve never had braces before. I wish I’d had them as a teenager but now I’m 24 so obviously can’t get them through the NHS. I really don’t like my teeth so I’m looking for a good brace system that will sort out the crowding. I think I might have to have some teeth removed to have treatment, but is there any brace that would avoid having to do this? I’m worried that I won’t be able to pay for all this treatment. Thank you.
A.
Hello, thank you for your question. The best thing to do would be to visit an orthodontist so that they can have a look at your teeth and work out the best treatment plan for you. There may be more than one option to consider so they can talk you through each one to see which is the most suitable solution.
There are a lot of brace systems out there and it depends on how the teeth need to move as to which would be best for you. Sometimes teeth need to be removed regardless of the type of brace.
Hope this is helpful and good luck!
