Which Brace System Would Be Best Closing A Gap Between My Teeth In A Short Amount Of Time?

Q.
Hello Dr Qureshi. I really hope you can offer your advice. I have a gap in my front teeth and it really bugs me. I would like to know if Invisalign would work for me. Ideally I’d like to have clear braces but I would go with the Damon braces or Inman Aligner if that would work faster. I have a wedding to go to in the next eight months and I’d like it sorted by then. What would be the best option? I hope to hear from you soon. Thank you for your time.

Hi there. Invisalign is a great system for the right case. How effective it would be would depend largely on the size of the gap between the teeth.

In my experience, I have found Invisalign to be slower in closing spaces than traditional braces, so if you only have 8 months I would say that Invisalign may not be able to close it in time. If this is not an issue, you can go with Invisalign and if the space does not close completely in the allotted time, then your dentist should be able to place some temporary fillings to mask the gap in the interim, but you will also have to have a temporary retainer made to keep the teeth in position until you are ready to proceed with the next stage of Invisalign.

Fixed braces are much quicker to close spaces as the bracket and wire allows the teeth to be pulled into position, and as the teeth are not covered, they can move freely.

I have to say I don’t use the Inman Aligner, but Damon braces would certainly be quicker.

I hope that this has been of some use. My best advise has to be for you to have a consultation with an orthodontist so that they can measure the gap and assess the adjacent teeth to advise you better.

Good luck!

Kind regards,

Saba Qureshi.
