I’m unsure if my braces are still working as I can’t feel much forces. Can you advise?

Q.
I have been wearing my braces for about 5 months now and am a little worried that it isn’t as effective as it once was. It feels a great deal looser and my teeth don’t seem to be moving as much as they once were. Is this just the way the braces works or should it be something for me to worry about? I am due to go back and see my dentist in about a month, but do you think it would be better if I did it now instead? I really want to get the best out of my brace, and it would seem a waste of time and money if I left things now. Do you think I will have to have a new brace at all? Thanks
A.
Hi,
If you have a fixed brace it is very common for the initial changes in tooth position to be quite dramatic and then for it to settle or slow down. It is recommended that you have the braces tightened at about 6-8 week intervals to allow the teeth to recover from he forces applied. I would not be concerned at this stage and think that you can wait for your next visit but mention it to your orthodontist when you next see them.
I hope this reassures you somewhat.
