How Can I Pay For My Braces?

Q.
I really don’t want a train-track brace but my mum and dad don’t have great jobs so they’ve already said they can’t afford to pay for ‘fancy’ braces as they call them. I have to go to high school and I don’t want to be bullied. There was this one girl there who got picked on because of her braces and she always had food trapped in them. My jaw hurts all the time and the gaps in between my teeth are huge, the definitely need fixing. Can you please suggest something? I’m 15 and trying to get a part-time job so can I pay for them that way? Or can I get some help from someone? Thanks.

Hi there.

I’m sorry to hear that some people your age have been bullied because of braces. They’re so common nowadays that normally no one even gives them a second glance.
An alternative to the fixed metal braces are the ceramic ones which look much better but of course are not available on the NHS and therefore would have to be paid for privately.

Unfortunately unless you have private healthcare, private braces will have to be funded by you and your family but most places allow you to spread the cost of treatment over a period of time. This breaks the fee down into more manageable installments.

I hope this has been of some help.

Good luck with the braces!
