I’m not sure whether to get lingual braces. Are they good and who should carry out the procedure?

March 16th, 2012
Q.

Hi,
I am a 31 year old adult considering getting braces. I have had three consultations with three different specialists. The first orthodontists recommended that I have fixed upper and lower appliances (train tracks) for 12-18mths. It was only after this consultation that I learnt about lingual braces. I then had two more consultations with two different specialists (both of which were not orthodontists but offered orthodontic treatment). Both told me that I
would be a suitable candidate for lingual braces. The first quoted me 9-10 mths treatment time, the second 6-7mths treatment time.

I would prefer to go for the lingual brace system, however, my two concerns are: firstly, can lingual braces be as effective as the traditional ‘train tracks’ when the treatment time is much less? Secondly, the specialists that recommended lingual braces were not orthodontists but dentists who specialised in some orthodontic treatment. If I am considering lingual braces should I make sure the treatment is carried out by an orthodontist.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks.

Can I swap from stb lingual braces to incognito?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

Hi Darsh I had lingual braces fitted ages ago. about five/six months now and I don’t particularly like them as I haven’t got used to them. my tongue still feels like it has no room and i thought I would be used to this b now but no. I still have about a year or slightly more to wear them. I was wondering if i could change my treatment in conjuction with my treatment plan or with the minimum change to it? I wuold like to try the incognito as they look slightly less obtrusive. wouold this be possible or would it require starting all over again? thanks for your time Dr 🙂

What can I do to get through having a brace with dental phobia?

March 2nd, 2012
Q.

Hi SABA, I’m a life long dental phobia patient. It it is not my wish to have orthodontics but it most certainly is my wish to have nice teeth. I don’t think I’ll be too bothered about having a brace once it’s on but I know i will be whilst its being put on. there’s a few things I would like to find out from you from this if that OK. first is how long would it take to have alingual brace put on and secondly what is available to help me through the procedure? If you can answer these it will go some way to re-assuring me, I am very grateful for your time.

Are invisible braces actually that discreet?

January 17th, 2012
Q.

I am seriously considering lingual braces or some other kind of invisible braces. Are these a better option in terms of how discreet they are? I’ve not really seen images of these or other invisible braces and I suppose you don’t know how discreet they are until you actually see them. Also what kind of experience and qualifications should I look for in a lingual dentist if you don’t mind me asking. Much appreciated.

I have been told that lingual braces aren’t actually that good. Is this true?

January 12th, 2012
Q.

I am to have my lingual braces put into place next monday. I am really beginning to regret this decision after a discussion with my general dentist (i’m getting the braces from a separate ortho guy) as he said they aren’t really all that good. I only really wanted them because they are supposed to be hidden behind the teeth and I don’t want to be showing off braces while I’m in my work on a daily basis. Is this how it is? Please help me out.

Can you give me an estimate price for Lingual braces to fix small tooth gaps and an overbite issue?

January 9th, 2012
Q.

I have spent much of the last week looking on sites about the different braces available and I am pretty sure that lingual braces are just about the right ones for me. I have small gaps and there is also the issue of an overbite that needs to be fixed. Is there a rough price that you can tell me for this treatment and the issues I have and whether it is indeed suitable?

My teeth are still straight after lingual braces but is there more I should know?

December 23rd, 2011
Q.

Hi, I had lingual braces a few years back now, and my teeth are still straight but I have seen alot of people with braces and after they got them removed there teeth looked smooth and the edges were aligned, I never remember my orthodontist doing this to me but I asked one of my friends and she said all they did was file her teeth down, I just want to know about how much does this cost and a little more information thanks.

My front teeth are severely crossed, would lingual braces work for me?

December 20th, 2011
Q.

It is only my front teeth that I have a problem with and this has been the case all my life. Would lingual braces be a good choice to sort out a problem with only these teeth? I’ve read about other treatments like six month smiles but my problems with the front teeth are quite severe so I don’t think it would work. How is lingual braces with severe tooth problems, like askew or something problems?

Will getting fillings and bonding affect my chances of getting braces for crooked teeth?

December 16th, 2011
Q.

Hi Mr Patel I am from the Dominican Republic but have living here for nearly ten year. I have been told that I need a lot of restoration work on my teeth due to sugars I have encountered in the past. Also my teeth are crooked and I have considered having a brace. I have now saved up money and was thinking about getting a smart brace and have now been recommended to look at lingual braces. I was hoping you could tell me if there was any restoration work that would interfere with me getting a ligual brace. I need a few fillings and have been told that also I need cosmetic bonding? I am not sure what this is but will either of these things affect me getting a brace that goes behind my teeth? thank you, speak soon

How are lingual braces able to move teeth in the same way traditional braces do?

December 14th, 2011
Q.

as a traditional brace goes round the outside of the teeth it is quite easy to see how it could straighten teeth, as it can just pull them apart. I don’t understand how linguals can pull the teeth apart and for this reason would they be suitable for crowded teeth? my teeth are fairly overlapped on the bottom and mildly overlapped on the top and at twenty one i think my mouth/face would have stopped growing? I dont want traditional braces but was caught up on how linguals would pull teeth from the inside? feedback would assure me as to going for/getting treatment. thanks
