Other than lingual braces what are quick ways of straightening teeth?

December 19th, 2011
Q.

Helllo Darsh 😀 I need your help please. I am 40 and wanted my teeth straightened inside a year before I go across to america for three months. I will be travelling on the bike and dont want to wear my helpmet whilst wearing a brace. the dentist told me that train tracks can take upto two years to achieve what they are required to do but he said to straighten teeth like mine he recommended some form of invisible brace. he basically said; they tend to cost more but there’s a good variety that can achieve straight teeth in a fraction of the time whilst looking more discreet in the interim. I wouldn’t mind having the lingual braces as they wont bother my cheeks whilst I am on the bike (I know these aren’t quicker than traditional’s but in this case it wouldn’t matter so much). other than linguals though what is generally accepted as the quickest way to straighten teeth? which method would you first look towards to see if a patient, who’d just presented you with this question, qualified for it?

Will getting fillings and bonding affect my chances of getting braces for crooked teeth?

Q.

Hi Mr Patel I am from the Dominican Republic but have living here for nearly ten year. I have been told that I need a lot of restoration work on my teeth due to sugars I have encountered in the past. Also my teeth are crooked and I have considered having a brace. I have now saved up money and was thinking about getting a smart brace and have now been recommended to look at lingual braces. I was hoping you could tell me if there was any restoration work that would interfere with me getting a ligual brace. I need a few fillings and have been told that also I need cosmetic bonding? I am not sure what this is but will either of these things affect me getting a brace that goes behind my teeth? thank you, speak soon

How are lingual braces able to move teeth in the same way traditional braces do?

Q.

as a traditional brace goes round the outside of the teeth it is quite easy to see how it could straighten teeth, as it can just pull them apart. I don’t understand how linguals can pull the teeth apart and for this reason would they be suitable for crowded teeth? my teeth are fairly overlapped on the bottom and mildly overlapped on the top and at twenty one i think my mouth/face would have stopped growing? I dont want traditional braces but was caught up on how linguals would pull teeth from the inside? feedback would assure me as to going for/getting treatment. thanks

I am worried gum disease will return if I get lingual braces. Can you advise?

Q.

Hi Darsh.. I feel my teeth are in such a state I migh not be able to have braces, I had gum disease for a long while that eventually subsided about a year ago now, Ive been waiting trying to let my gums recover before making a move on any orthadontic treatment. I do not want train tracks that’s one thing I can do without. I would ideally like a set of lingual braces, I think I asked Dr Hutchinson about what braces were best on here not to long ago and he was adamant that either traditional braces (tooth coloured) or linguals were the way to go, but do you think gum disease will have left any damage that could affect me getting braces? like I said I definatley haven’t got it anymore just want to know about any relation that might exist between them and gum disease? cheers

What is the most discreet brace for me?

Q.

hi there im 57. I worked as a labourer for thirty years. this meant, as the work was physically hard my mouth was open for extended periods of the day in order to breath. now I’m told this could have contributed towards my teeth’s recent overlapping (this has happened progressively over the last few years or so). what I wanted to know was is this actually possible and if it is do you know of anything else that I can look at trying to stop? and as im still working as a brick layer which brace treatment is the least intrusive? for now im not bothered about speed, price or looks I just want the most comfort so it doesnt bother me when I work. cheers buddy

I am having problems properly cleaning my lingual braces. Could you advise?

Q.

Dr Patel could you please help me with my braces. I really dont want to get gum disease whilst my braces are on, I have lingual braces and cleaning them is a nighmare it takes about an evening to do. I do clean them all the time but its hard and sometimes I feel myself that i do not do them properly even though i try to. I looked at causes of gum disease the other day and apparently its largely due to plaque build up that doesnt get removed. I would assume that lingual braces are perfect hosts for this as they are behind the teeth and bacteria can easily hide? I sometimes think that a bit of knowledge can be dangerous and now I am really worried and have noticed that my gums are not as pink ad they used to be. I have got about seven months left with them on according to my dentist and would not want to have them removed whilst it goes only for my teeth to revert back to where they were. please could you advise on what I could potentially do in this situation I am really bothered by the whole thing. kindly appreciate you taking the time to read this. thank you

What if I need other dental treatment whilst wearing a brace?

Q.

Hi- I want braces and am thinking – after I consult my dentist/orthodontist to find out costs and whether it would be the right thing for me to do or not, about having lingual braces fitted as they will offer me the freedom to live life as normal as is possible with braces. but. no matter whether I have these linguals or a set of traditional ones I have concerns as to what happens if i need any other corrective treatment in a mean time. so If I were the brace and experience tooth ache or tooth decay of some form that means I need a root canal or something then would I be able to have it or does it mean any corrective surgery id put on hold until the braces are off?

hello there i need to find out what is best for me? i have been told about lingual braces and am really interested I am not down for the old ones I do not like them. I like the idea but have heard that they can make you talk funny and I don’t like the sound of that. I myself have then researched the inman aligner. I have crowded bottom teeth and would only require single arch treatment as the top are fine. could you tell me please what the variations in price between the inman aligner and the lingual braces are, generally speaking not on an individual case and which is best? it is literally the the front four bottom teeth that are crowded so if theres anything other than the inman i dont know about please let me know. thanks

I don’t understand why lingual braces are better than traditional ones?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi there, I don’t get the reason behind why some people choose to get lingual braces instead of the normal traditional ones. Braces don’t look that bad and when people get lingual braces they tend to start talking funny and they are probably harder to brush as all the brackets are behind the teeth and you can’t see them. Also wouldn’t they hurt more than normal braces? Or is there some hidden benefits that I don’t know about

I want braces but not traditional train tracks to fix my mildly crooked teeth, what do I get?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

hello I am thinking of having braces and have looked through this website for alternatives to the old fashioned metal braces. I do not want these as Id rather have crooked teeth, they are horrible clumpy things! what I cannot do well on here though is compare my favourites side by side (any website in general) what I would do therefore is ask your opinion. in correcting crooked bottom (they aren’t massively crossed which is why I have had the luxury of taking my time thinking about having them done) teeth what what would you say was the best orthodontic treatment to fix them without getting traditional fixed braces? cheers
