Are My Six Month Smiles Causing Bad Breath?

Q.
Hello. I have 6 month smiles and they’re fab, the tooth movement is extraordinary and my dentist has already said i could have them removed sooner than the expected treatment time which is great! HOWEVER, I have such terrible breath, I don’t know why this is but it’s only occurred since having the braces fitted. Can you please advise me? My dentist said my breath is fine, but it isn’t…I’ve already had comments from my husband. Thank you in advance.

Hi there.
It’s quite uncommon to find bad breath associated with braces but it may be down to the fact that its more difficult to brush when braces are in place. The first thing I would suggest is to brush your tongue thoroughly with your toothbrush and use an interdental brush to make sure there are no food fragments remaining after brushing. Failing this, use a specialist mouthwash such as retardex which targets the bacteria which cause bad breath.
I hope you find this useful,
Kind regards.
